Following Anya Taylor-Joy’s replacement by Lily Rose-Depp in the Nosferatu remake, horror enthusiasts are not overly thrilled.
Reimagined as a sequel to the beloved 1922 horror picture, it stars Lily as Orlok, the young vampire that Orlok becomes obsessed with, and Bill Skarsgård as the vampire Count Orlok.
The official teaser for the movie, which debuted on Monday, depicts Ellen having a terrifying nightmare that seems to be related to the vampire.
Harry Styles, a singer, and Anya were initially involved in the project, but both decided to leave the movie.
The movie’s development started years ago, and Anya was initially involved with the production in 2017. Prior to his own withdrawal in 2022, Harry Styles was also connected.
Fans voiced their disappointment that Anya, who starred in Mad Max, was not included in the film after the new teaser was released.
Fans posted on X with comments like, “We could’ve had Anya for Nosferatu,” “Damn, I really wanted to see Anya in Nosferatu,” and “Even so, Anya should’ve been in Nosferatu.”
Others said, “I don’t think I could forgive you; it should have been Anya.” They also questioned why Anya had left Nosferatu.
“I can’t stop thinking about how amazing Anya would have been, even though I am kind of living for Lily Rose in the Nosferatu teaser.”
A plot summary of Nosferatu describes it as a ‘Gothic tale of obsession between a disturbed young woman and the scary vampire infatuated with her, spreading unfathomable terror in its wake.’
Simon McBurney, Ralph Ineson, Emma Corrin, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson make up the remaining cast.
Yes, it is a frightening movie. It’s a scary film. Robert Eggers, the film’s director, told Empire, “It’s a Gothic horror movie.” “Furthermore, I believe that a truly frightening old-school Gothic film hasn’t been released in a long.
The forty-year-old director said that this retelling of the event is “even more Ellen’s story than previous versions” and that “Lily-Rose is absolutely phenomenal.”
Eggers wrote that Bill Skarsgard was ‘changed’ in his performance, taking full responsibility for Lily-Rose’s scared expression.
Eggers joked, “I’m afraid he might not get the credit that he deserves because he’s just… he’s not there.” He had the want to respect those who had come before him. All of it is quite subtle.
“But I think the main thing is that he’s even more of a folk vampire,” he went on. We’ve never really seen what a genuine deceased Transylvanian aristocrat might look like or dress like, but in my judgement, he looks like a dead lord.
