A beloved movie received a contemporary makeover from Anya Taylor-Joy at the 2021 CFDA Awards!
The 25-year-old star of Queen’s Gambit walked the red carpet in New York City on Wednesday, wearing a bustier cocktail dress with a plunging neckline that was custom-made by Oscar de la Rena and a purple moiré peplum jacket. Taylor-Joy finished the ensemble with a black birdcage veil, stockings, purple shoes, glittering Tiffany jewels, a leopard pillbox hat a la Gigi Burris, and leopard gloves.
The Emmy Award contender collaborated with stylist Paul Burgo to choose the ensemble for the glamorous evening, when she was bestowed with the inaugural Face of the Year Award from the fashion council.
The actress claims that the beloved Disney picture 101 Dalmatians served as the inspiration for the ensemble.
“Well, the opening scene of 101 Dalmatians served as the basis for this. I think it is really lovely when elegant women walk their pets,” she said to Entertainment Tonight. “I just tried to think about the quintessential New York woman, and somehow, we ended up here.”
Taylor-Joy talked candidly about her experiences as a young adult exploring the world of fashion last month on PEOPLE (The TV Show!).
“I was a huge tomboy growing up, so it is been really interesting. I have been getting the weirdest fashion education because clothes did not enter my globe until I started working,” she said to Senior Correspondent Jeremy Parsons.
“It is opened me up to this whole other medium of expressing myself and having fun and enjoying it,” she said.
Similar to how she had imagined it, Taylor-Joy dazzled at the 2021 Emmy Awards in September while wearing a yellow Dior Haute Couture gown.
One of the first things I noticed was that, entirely assembled. Taylor-Joy stated to PEOPLE (The TV Show!) in October, “As soon as I received the Emmy nomination, I knew exactly what I wanted to wear and how I wanted it to appear.
“I was really appreciative to the House of Dior for creating my ideal gown. She remarked, “I really, really wanted to wear that.”
